An 18-year-old woman has had relapsing courses of atopic dermatitis since she was 3 years old. She is currently using topical corticosteroids twice weekly, which are of benefit, but she often has flares on her face and hands. The flares now cover about 15% of body surface area, and the itchiness is interfering with her sleep. She is eager to get her condition under better control before she leaves for college in a few months.
