An 8-year-old boy visits your office with his mother. He complains of severe itchiness that keeps him up at night. He has pruritic, eczematous rashes on his face; flexural areas of the neck, chest, and palms, and flexural areas of his knees. He has had these symptoms, usually mild, since infancy, and his mother has added coconut oil to his bath water. However, his symptoms have gotten worse recently. He is otherwise healthy and of normal weight and height for his age. He has no other chronic conditions.
